Grape
Take the note. The AI does the filing, the studying and the searching.

Grape is an offline-first note app with an agent that reads the workspace you already built and answers out of your own writing. Notes live in a local database on the device, semantic search finds them without a naming convention, and any note can become a flashcard deck, a quiz, an infographic, a generated image, a short video or a slide deck you can edit slide by slide. Search also reads the text inside images, scans and handwritten notes, and the phone camera turns paper into a clean scan. Voice recordings come back as a transcript that names who said what. You can point it at your own model: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Groq, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, or a local one through Ollama or LM Studio. The chat keeps a memory of what you tell it, which you can edit or delete, and the share extension takes text, links and files into a note from any other app on the phone. On Sync or Pro you can share a note or a whole folder by email for editing or read-only, and Pro adds live cursors so you can see where the others are typing. Ask the AI for something, switch to another app, and Grape sends a notification when the work is done. Sync is end-to-end encrypted, two or more notes can be merged into one, and a hosted MCP server lets Claude, ChatGPT or a coding agent read and write your notes without anything running on your machine. You can build agents of your own, each with its own instructions and model, give them apps like Notion or Linear to work in, put them on a schedule as routines, and let them ask each other for help. Ask for a tracker or a practice game and the AI builds a small working app inside the note. Flashcards and fill in the blank sentences come back on a spaced repetition schedule, and an official command line tool reads and writes notes from a terminal. The Lifetime license syncs through your own Dropbox or Google Drive.

Pricing
$3/month · $49 one-time
Free tier: Free forever, no account needed: unlimited notes, folders and tags, rich editing, drawing canvas, voice recording, web clipper, locked notes, and flashcards, quizzes and fill in the blank sets you write yourself.
Sync is $3/month for cross-device sync, sharing, 10 GB of storage, version history and daily backups, with no AI at all. Plus is $9/month and adds Grape AI on the standard model, semantic search, transcription and 50 GB. Pro is $19/month for the best model with twice the allowance, plus speaker identification, routines, connected apps, the MCP server, the CLI, live cursors and 100 GB. The $49 lifetime license runs the AI features on your own API keys and syncs through your own Dropbox or Google Drive, without Grape AI or sharing.

What it does well
- The widest AI feature set here: an agent with a memory it keeps between chats, semantic search, transcription with speaker labels, image generation, flashcards and quizzes on a spaced repetition schedule, short-form video and editable slide decks
- Agents you build yourself, which can work in Notion, Linear or Todoist, run on a schedule and ask each other for help
- A hosted MCP server and an official command line tool, so Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or a script can read and write your notes without a local process to keep running
- Bring your own model, including local ones through Ollama or LM Studio
- Offline-first with a local database, end-to-end encrypted sync, and an automatic daily backup kept for thirty days
- A $3/month plan for people who want encrypted sync and nothing else, Grape AI from $9/month, and a $49 lifetime license in a category that has moved almost entirely to subscriptions
- Custom themes and home screen widgets, which most AI-first apps skip
- AI requests keep running after you switch to another app, and a notification tells you when they are done
Where it falls short
- No web app, so every device needs the app installed
- Sharing is by email invite only, everyone you invite needs Sync, Plus or Pro, and there are no comments or public links
- No team workspaces, databases or board views
- The best model, speaker identification, routines, connected apps, the MCP server and the CLI are Pro only, at $19/month
Our take
The most AI you can point at your own notes while keeping them on your own machine. Young, and it shows in the missing web app and in sharing that stops at email invites, but the study tools, the $9 AI plan and the lifetime license make it hard to ignore.
Best for: Students and individual note-takers who want AI over their own notes, kept on their own device, and who now and then share a folder with a classmate or a colleague.
